What is Tang Soo Do
Tang Soo Do is a traditional Korean Martial Art with influences from traditional Korean Karate, as well as elements of Chinese and Japanese styles. Although its roots can be traced back even farther in time, modern Tang Soo Do was founded in 1945 by Grandmaster Hwang Kee under the name Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan. Incorporating self-defense, physical fitness, and mental growth, Tang Soo Do has grown worldwide as one of the most recognized and traditional martial arts.
Tang Soo Do incorporates both kicks and punches in its system of self-defense. Students learn traditional Korean forms along with sparring, board breaking, and weapons. This creates a well rounded martial artist which, in turn, helps them to become as successful as possible in all areas of life.
Tang Soo Do's most famous practitioner is Chuck Norris, who started his martial arts training while in the Air Force in Korea.
International Master George Kapterian, 6th Degree Black Belt
International Master George Kapterian, 6th Dan, began practicing in the Korean Martial Art of Tang Soo Do in the Spring of 1990 under the instruction of Grand Master Chong Su Kim. By maintaining his training with the same instructor, Mr. Kapterian has achieved the rank of International Master in the Spring of 2019. Master Kapterian has received the Pan-Am Tang Soo Do Federation 2008 Best Instructor Award. In February 2009 Master Kapterian re-opened Kim's Karate Shrewsbury with the direct support of Grand Master Chong Su Kim.
At Kim’s Karate Shrewsbury we are dedicated to excellence! We teach the Korean martial art of Tang Soo Do in a traditional and authentic manner. Kim’s Karate Shrewsbury is an internationally recognized martial arts school. Also, our instructors are internationally ranked and recognized by the authority of the Pan- American Tang Soo Do Federation and Grand Master Chong Su Kim. All students, young and old, have the opportunity to become internationally recognized, as well!

Grand Master Chong Su Kim
Grand Master Chong Su Kim was born in Song Tan, Korea, and immigrated to the United States in 1977 when he made York, PA, his second home. He received his United States citizenship in 1982 and has now become widely recognized as a dedicated and strong community-minded citizen.
Grand Master Chong Su Kim has traveled all over the world in order to help people in need and promote the benefits of Tang Soo Do for everyone.

The Pan Am Tang Soo Do Federation
Kim's Karate Shrewsbury is a proud member of the internationally recognized Pan-Am Tang Soo Do Federation. The Federation was founded by Grand Master Chong Su Kim in 1986 in York, Pennsylvania. Grandmaster Kim traveled all over the world promoting Tang Soo Do. All the members of this Federation will be treated equally, with respect, honesty, loyalty, and courtesy. Kim's Karate Shrewsbury is an accredited martial arts school within a family of some of the best martial artists in the country and worldwide.
